چکیده

The objects of this paper are (a) to report on a study of mediastinal shift and apico-basal diameters of the lungs in a series of 80 patients undergoing phrenic nerve crush and pneumoperitoneum therapy for pulmonary tuberculosis: (b) to discuss the mechanism and therapeutic significance of the mediastinal shift. Although studies of mediastinal shift following phrenic nerve paralysis alone have been reported by Nehil and Alexander (1933) and Hansen and Maly (1934), no previous study of mediastinal shift following phrenic nerve crush and pneumoperitoneum therapy has been found in a search of the literature.

A modified conception of phrenic nerve crush and pneumoperitoneum therapy.

The object of this paper is to present a modified view of the mode of action of phrenic nerve crush and pneumoperitoneum therapy in pulmonary tuberculosis. In a study of mediastinal shift in a series of 80 cases of phrenic nerve crush and pneumoperitoneum therapy (Fox, 1950) it was found that the average mediastinal shift to the left in the cases with right phrenic paralysis was 1.6 cm., and to...

Dissociated paralysis of the diaphragm following phrenic crush and pneumoperitoneum.

In 1939 Douady and others reported for the first time dissociated paralysis of the diaphragm. It occurred in two patients during the course of phrenic alcoholization and pneumoperitoneum therapy for pulmonary tuberculosis. Since then no further cases have been found in the literature. The object of this paper is to report another case and to discuss the therapeutic and anatomical significance o...

Background: Supraclavicular nerve block is a method for upper limb surgery in Anesthesiology. In this method that is common for supraclavicular block, injection anesthesia on the first rib and it has complications such as pneumothorax, phrenic never pulsy, infection, intra spinal injection. In this study injection with a 10 degree cephalic side as compared with the first rib in order to decreas...

Neurochemistry and anatomy of the ventral medulla

The relationship between the anatomy and neurochemistry of neurons in the ventral medulla oblongata in regions that is responsible for cardiovascular, airways, and respiratory regulation was investigated. Microinjections of excitant amino acid (glutamate, 100 nl, 100 mM) were made throughout the ventral medulla in anesthetized rats. Arterial blood pressure, sympathetic nerve activity and phreni...
